lekan animashaun-low profile (not for the blacks)

10.3.10

for all the fela junkies this is one of the late 70's fela productions, two of them have been reissued a few years ago on honest jon's records label.
in the true tradition of the afrobeat, the lp contains only two "long but so strong" songs, about 15 minutes of hypnotic rhythms for each...
lekan animashaun is better known by the fela addicts under the name of baba ani, he was the barytone sax player and the musical director for koola lobitos, africa 70's and egypt 80's, and is still a part of the actual band which is backing and touring worldwide with SEUN KUTI, if you want to know a bit more about him just read this interview.
if you love this lp you can also find more informations on it, or even buy it here .
coming soon the second release on honest jon's, an another masterpiece, the tunde williams "mr big mouth"....so keep connected!!
and please, feel better with a high profile than with a low one, leave some comments!!

Oscar Peterson - Plays Jimmy McHugh (1955)

9.3.10

Like Cole's early trio, the Oscar Peterson Trio that first became popular featured piano, bass (Ray Brown), and guitar, most notably Herb Ellis. Cascades of many notes characterized Peterson's playing. His earlier work, if often glib, was nevertheless invariably swinging.
Recorded in Los Angeles, CA, November 16, 1954
Oscar Peterson: Piano
Herb Hellis: Guitar
Ray Brown: Bass

AIFF-Afro Soul System-2007

8.3.10

this lp is like a proof of fela's influence on modern bands, like a proof that his message is still contemporary, today more than ever, and, to the crossroads of different styles of music (traditional african, funk, jazz...), that the afrobeat's grooves have been able to adapt themselves through the past decades until now...
like an example of this versatlity, AIFF (for "afro funk influenced federation" a name which fits it very well!!) an 8 men band coming from netherlands, is playing one of the most interesting kind of afrobeat, mixing virtuously the original rythms of this music with some various influences like jazz, rap, reggae...
enjoy the 320 kbps quality and feel free to say what you think about this band and the LP in the comments!!

james brown-live in zaire 1974

7.3.10

ola amigos! i am back from a nice carnival which happens in a small village near mine, and after spending time to listen some good music, brazilian batucada and african drums, i feel in a very good mood to share this bootleg with you.

maybe you have recently heard about "soul power", incredible movie about the "rumble in the jungle" festival, showing us the making-of and some of the best parts of the live shows performed in the national stadium of kinshasa-zaire...if you didn't you should better check it here right now!!!

let's go back in the days, 1974...blend a bit of black proudness with a lot of the best black musicians from the both sides of the planet in this time (of course james brown, miriam makeba, dibango, franco and tp ok jazz, tabu ley rochereau, fania all stars, bb king, the spinners and more and more and more...), a world wrestling fight opposing muhammad ali versus george foreman, mobutu as a political leader (today we would call him a dictator) and tropical heat which gets warmer and warmer.....this is the genesis of the most incredible "festival" to take place on the mothership, africa...and of course the captain of this groovy boat, sailing as a master through the hurricane was (no, not george clinton!!) the godfather of soul, jaaaaames brown!!

here is the bootleg of his complete perform (with maceo, fred wesley, charles sherrel etc....), including 19 tracks of pure fire and maybe the most hypnotic grooves the JB's and the godfather have never played...

don't you feel the ants in your pants? need to dance? put on your dancing shoes and play it loud on your hi-fi system to feed your moving need!!!!

and spend a few seconds to reply!!it's free and good for your karma!!

tony allen and the hypnotic brass ensemble-live at cargo

Ladies and gentlemen, this is an exclusivity that i bring especially here to the san pasquale followers...

Here's another fantastic live at cargo, still in one complete file with no separate tracks...

A wicked combination, full of positive energy, between one the greatest drummer of the forty last years (maybe THE greatest), mister Tony Allen, and the incredible Hypnotic Brass Band from chicago, plus famous guests like english rapper TY (already known for some collaborations with tony allen on his home cooking album) or Damon Albarn...

Check this very nice review of the show here, including few beautiful pictures, and if you loved this stuff don't forget to leave some comments!!

music is the weapon-self titled lp

would you like to hear more afrobeat vibes?? well well, i bring you something special...

Fela Kuti has an international impact and years after years, from countries to countries, new bands influenced by his work are rising.

here is some felakutished afrobeat coming from a cold country, more known for his blond-haired and blue eyed girls than for the quality of his afrobeat and groovy bands.

you can now forget all the hackneyed expressions about sweden, because it's the place where this LP comes from and it's a concentrate of pure afrobeat style, the twelve players are doing as well as africa 70's in the good old days.

and try to leave some comments about this lp, sharing is not an unilateral thing!!

ashantis-self titled lp

Take care with this one, it is an exploding bomb and if you don't handle it with caution you won't be able to stop your dancin' feet and your shakin' heads!!
a very very good afro funk lp, from this band from ghana, helped by some serious instrumentists from italy.

even if it is lightly influenced by disco (the good side of the disco, not exactly boney-M!!) it contains some of the heaviest horn driven beats and contagious grooves you've never heard before.
all killer no filler, be sure the party is gonna be hot like burning fire if you play this.

peter king-miliki sound

hey folks, breakfast time is ended and i have nuff energy now to share more music!!
i'll end for peter king's posts (but i am actually looking for others lps he released, if someone has some, please share them!) with this less-known one.

also released on orbitone in 1975, it is in the same vein than two others, maybe sounding a little bit more "afro-folk" (i mean more influenced by roots-traditional styles from west africa like highlife...) and a little bit less jazzy or funky...

anyway the saxophone is still present so be sure you will love this lp as you loved the 2 previous ones.

and as sharing music is a pleasure for the one who shares, don't forget that receiving music should be a pleasure for you too, so hit us with replies and let share your feelings about the music you found here.

Okay, it's yet early in the morning and before i have to prepare the breakfast for my 5 years old daughter i would like to share with those who loved my first post an another masterpiece from the KING.

By the way if you want to know more about the man, you can find here a very good article written for the french cultural center of Nigeria

This lp, issued on orbitone label in 1976 is quite hard to find in wax (prices are really expensive....599 euros for an original press, who can decently buy it?) so sharing it for all the non-millionaire people all over the world is a must, and i am for a real democratization of music you know!!

so let's enter in "le vif du sujet" and enjoy the sound of Peter King

Hey folks! I am a new contributor on this blog, it's the first time i have to do this so be nice with me especially with my poor english (i am french).
i'll try to write well enough to be understood, so now, let's start my collaboration with the san pasquale team with this masterpiece from the nigerian alto saxophone player peter king. a true veteran playing his instrument very tight, and providing beats funky and trippy as hell.

if you're happy and you love it please reply!!
